With structured development and club integration at the heart of our junior program, it is no wonder, that Holywood GC is considered as one of the countries leading youth hubs for golf. From Rory Mcilroy and Jessica Carty through to our most recent talented juniors, Tom McKibbin and Olivia McCrystal. With over 200 children associated with Holywood Golf Club, we have the biggest and best junior section in Northern Ireland.

Structure

The Junior section consists of two age groups. Our Minor’s start from age 6 to 12 and our Juveniles from age 13 to 17. No previous experience with golf is needed as our Professionals are more than happy to start from the beginning. The long term athlete development program consists of three groups. Participation, Development and Performance. Whether it’s trying the sport for the first time, having fun with friends and family or taking wanting to become the next Rory McIlroy, we have everything in one club. Enjoy the outdoor and indoor training facilities and competing against friends in our weekly competitions.

Junior Induction

As a new junior member to the club, we want to make sure you enjoy your time at Holywood. We integrate our juniors by walking, talking and showing. One of our Performance Academy staff will walk you through the facilities and show you everything you have access to as a junior member. They then talk through our junior induction process, covering such things as etiquette, expectations and the development programs. Showing relates to the small coaching session designed to give you the basics such as grip, stance and swing. This is also used as an analysis tool, so we know where to place you within our development program.

Coaching

Our detailed coaching structure allows us to help each junior member progress in the sport, no matter what their goals are, at their own pace. We ensure all our coaching staff and volunteers are Access NI checked and perform Safeguarding qualifications. Whether working in groups to meet new friends or enhance the competitiveness is your thing, or you prefer working individually with a coach to get more personalised feedback, we have options available for everyone.

Participation Coaching Clinics

From those new to the sport, through to those with a handicap of 20, this clinic delivers small group coaching of up to 8 children. Our Participation Coaching Clinic’s primary focus is having fun with friends and making new ones, whilst learning the fundamentals and working on your movement patterns. As in all club environments, this is a great opportunity to make lifelong friends from an early age. This is delivered over a 5 week term time basis which includes two group session per week.

Development Coaching Clinics

The second stage in our development pathway, this group is for juniors with handicaps between 10 and 20. The development coaching clinic focuses both on the individuals needs once per week as well as maintaining a group format to mix with friends and keep a competitive environment. Working with the coach on a one to one basis enables a degree of specificity for the young athlete. This is delivered over a 5 week term time basis which includes one individual session per week and one group session per week.

Performance Squad

The final stage in our development pathway, this group is focused on the performance side of the sport. This squad is for those who are serious at making golf part of their future careers. The club itself invests heavily in the development of this selected group of athletes, through resources and opportunities. This is an all round program that focuses on technical, tactical, physiological and psychology of golf. Not only do we provide one to one sessions both on and off the course with our head professional, the athletes receive training sessions each week with our sports scientist in our onsite performance gym, this includes testing, preventative injury conditioning and strength and conditioning sessions focusing on strength and power. Physiotherapy support is also provided as part of the service. Individual Trackman sessions each week with specific goal setting by the coach and selected away trips both to local and overseas courses. This truly is one of the leading performance programs in the country.

Junior Camps

Our camps are open to juniors of all skill ability, whether they have never picked up a golf club or are mini Rorys in the making, everyone is welcome! We can also provide any equipment needed so it is the perfect opportunity to test out the sport.
